Health and Safety legislation is enforced by inspectors from Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local authorities. The company has a clear safety commitment ot its staff, clients and the general public. All staff must comply with both company policy and any relevant legislation, failure to do so can lead to instant dismissal.

This document, while not an autoritative statement on the finer points of the law, sets out the company's views on the Health and Safety responsibilities of its employees.

The company safety policy is governed by key legislation contained within the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988 (COSHH) and the Control of Pesticides Act 1986. Copies of all the above legislation are available from our Head Office. The company will limit exposure to, and, where necessary, monitor the use of sbstances hazardous to health as on ongoing priority. particular care will be taken with the introduction of new substances and the risks will be assessed as required in accordance with COSHH. Pest Protection Services will ensure the collection of up to date information on the toxicity and potential hazards of all substances used by our company. This information will be freely available to our staff, customers, Environmental Health Officials etc.

The director and the service men will ensure that hazardous substances are issued in a controlled way and that details associated with them are fully explained, including the handling, storage, transportation and use of the substances. They will ensure that safety data sheets are made available and that a full COSHH assessment is carried out on any new products before it is taken into stock.

The Safety Officer and the Service Men are responsible for monitoring the use of substances and will take charge of any contingency situation involving spillage, etc.

Supervisors are required to ensure that their staff are trained in the use, handling and storage of all substances. They must be familiar with any contingency plan and ensure that substances are only dealt with in the prescribed manner. Staff will also be involved in external courses on the safe use of pesticides run by both the BPCA and other agencies.
